Name: Giraffe, Giraffa

Description: Ruminant mammal with a very

long neck and legs,

tan coat with orange-brown to

black patterns, and short horns.

Location: Africa

  • Lives in small herds
  • Tallest living animal reaching 20 feet in height
  • Lives up to 25 years
  • Giraffes have long, full eyelashes
  • Can weigh up to 3000 pounds
  • A Giraffe can eat up to 75 pounds of food per day
  • Giraffes defend themselves by kicking
  • Diet: Will eat grass and fruits of various trees and shrubs, but principal food source is the acacia tree

    Neat Fact: Despite its long neck, the giraffe has only seven vertebrae, the same number as man and most other mammals.
